Ohio Educational Directory System
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What
if an Ohio school district superintendent, community school principal, or
independent nonpublic school principal would like to delegate their
authority
to update the OEDS data? What is the process?
A: In
order for superintendents to delegate their OEDS-R authority to another
person, the following steps must be completed:
1. Superintendent
completes the SAFE
signup process (click here)
2. If the superintendent prefers to delegate the authority of
updating the Ohio Educational Directory information, the Superintendent should
do the
following:
A. Determine if his
potential delegate already has a
Secure Web Portal (SAFE) account with ODE:
A.1
If superintendent does a search for his delegate’s name in OEDS and
doesn’t find his delegate’s name, this is confirmation that the delegate
does not have an approved SAFE account.
A.2 If delegate’s name doesn’t exist in OEDS, the delegate
completes the SAFE
signup process (click here).
B. Once the delegate has a SAFE account, the superintendent
assigns the role - "OEDS R Organization Administrator" to his
delegate. The superintendent must then send an email to
Safe.Admin@ode.state.oh.us
stating that the delegate has permission to update the OEDS data (this is
the authorization step - in other words, the Superintendent is providing
access to the delegate to update OEDS).

NOTE: When the superintendent performs this step, he/she is
delegating the equivalent of his/her
electronic signature to grant the delegate the authority to make updates to
the Ohio Educational Directory Data on the superintendent’s behalf. The
delegate will possess a unique electronic signature, but by actively
delegating the OEDS update duties, the superintendent is allowing the
delegate to act on his/her behalf. |
C. After the
superintendent
delegates authority to update OEDS through this
process, the following occurs:
-
Person who updates the organization's information (whether this is the
Superintendent or his delegate) can now log into the
ODE Secure Web Portal,
then select OEDS from the application list, then update their district or
building directory information through OEDS.
Q: How does the
OEDS-R Organization Administrator know which roles to assign people for the
various applications?
