Exceptional Children Application Access

Users who are associated with an organization and assigned to one of the following roles in their organization in the Ohio Educational Directory System (OEDS-R) are allowed access to Exceptional Children application:

This function enables districts to request units and view their district unit allocation data. It also enables districts to view and take gifted education surveys.

The following roles will enable the users to request and give units, view allocation data, view surveys and take survey:

• Superintendent
• Signer-Gifted and Talented – The district can assign this role to any staff.

• Treasurer
• Coordinator-Gifted and Talented
• Supervisor-Gifted and Talented
• Intervention Specialist-Gifted and Talented
• Director-Gifted and Talented

Focused Monitoring

The Office for Exceptional Children (OEC) uses the process of focused monitoring of Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to ensure their compliance with federal and state laws and regulations applicable to children with disabilities. OEC selects districts for review based on performance data associated with specific State Performance Plan (SPP) indicators. Focused monitoring activities require selected districts to analyze instructional practices and research-based interventions that impact student performance and develop corrective action plans that improve results for students with disabilities. Focused monitoring is a component of Ohio’s System of General Supervision. This function enables districts to submit protocols and action plans designed to improve performance on the indicators upon which their selection was based. This function also enables OEC to coordinate the monitoring processes conducted with districts selected for review and to track the progress of districts engaged in various levels of monitoring. The following roles will enable the users to utilize the functions described above :

• Superintendent
• Treasurer
• Representative – Focused Monitoring
